
Markus Wolf, born in Vienna, has been 1st concertmaster at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich since 1989.
After studying in Vienna with Günter Pichler, former principal of the Alban Berg Quartet, he took lessons with Max Rostal, Nathan Milstein and Oscar Shumsky.
Markus Wolf is a respected chamber musician. As a violist with the Alban Berg Quartet, he recorded the Mozart string quintets for EMI. He has recorded numerous CDs with his “Beethoven Trio Vienna” and received the ECHO Klassik Award with the “Munich Horn Trio”.
As first concertmaster with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich, among others, Markus Wolf has performed on major stages around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Vienna Musikverein, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Berlin Philharmonie under renowned conductors such as Carlos Kleiber, Sir Colin Davis, Zubin Mehta and Kirill Petrenko.
Professor Markus Wolf, who has worked at the Munich University of Music since 2008, regularly gives masterclasses at home and abroad (including in Japan) and his students have enjoyed extensive audition success with renowned orchestras around the world.
