Prof. Josef Schwab

Prof. Josef Schwab studied at the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Academy of Music in Leipzig, then spent two years as principal cellist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra and became principal cellist of the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin in 1962.

He won several national and international prizes and performed with many orchestras as a soloist. His concert activity includes collaborations with important conductors such as Franz Konwitschny, Kurt Masur, Václav Neumann, Hans Swarowski, Zdenek Kosler, George Singer, in almost all European countries, South and Central America, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Japan. Schwab was a member of the string quartet of the German State Opera in Berlin. In 1974 he became a professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, has since held master classes in Germany and abroad and is a juror at many international competitions.
