Hariolf Schlichtig has made a name for himself in the music world as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher. He was a member of the Cherubini Quartet for 19 years and has worked with Leonidas Kavakos, András Schiff, Emmanuel Pahud, the Alban Berg Quartet and the Ensemble Villa Musica, among others.
As a soloist, he has performed in the Carnegie Hall, the Tonhalle Zurich, the Herkulessaal Munich and the Cologne Philharmonic with orchestras such as the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Cappella Andrea Barca, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Wiesbaden State Orchestra. He is also interested in contemporary composers, some of whose works he has premiered. He is professor of viola at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich. His class has repeatedly won prizes at major competitions and many of his graduates hold prominent positions in international musical life.
