Prof. Dorin Marc studied with Professors Nicolae Popa and Ion Cheptea at the Bucharest Academy of Music. From 1981 to 1992, he was double bassist with the Cluj Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania).
From 1987 to 1992, he was principal double bassist in the Orchestra Internationale d’Italia and from 1992 to 2003 principal double bassist in the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1998, he took up a teaching position at the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music, where he was appointed professor in 2003. Prof. Dorin Marc has won numerous prizes at international competitions (including the Special Prize of the Jury in 1979 and 1985, 2nd prize at the ARD Competition in 1981, 1st prize in Markneukirchen in 1981, silver medal in Geneva in 1983, and 1st prize in Mittenwald in 1991). For many years, he has been active internationally as a jury member (Markneukirchen and Joseph Prunner, Bucharest) and gives master classes (Koblenz, Seeon, Lanciano, Fermo, Pescara, Bologna, Mantua, Malmö, Bucharest, San Sebastian, Madrid, and Groningen). He has made numerous radio, television, and recording studio recordings.
