
Prof. Galina Vracheva was born in Bulgaria, began her musical education at the Sofia Conservatory and studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and at the Munich University of Music and Theatre.
She has won multiple prizes (e.g. “Senigallia” in 1978, “Maria Canals de Barcelona” in 1984), recorded numerous CDs and is one of the outstanding concert improvisers internationally. Since 2009 she has regularly improvised listeners’ requests in the programme “Wunsch:Musik” on BR-Klassik live. Since 2014, Vracheva has held a professorship at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. Master classes in Amsterdam and at Haus Marteau as well as jury work at international music competitions complete her teaching activities. In 2006 she composed the chamber opera “The Gift of the Magi” and in 2009 the opera “Gottfried Keller”. Galina Vracheva is currently working on a complete recording of the piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which is expected to be completed in 2025. Galina Vracheva will improvise all soloist cadenzas live for the recordings. Her partners are the Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Elisabeth Fuchs.
