Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht was principal flutist from 1989 to 2002 – first in the BR Radio Orchestra, and from 1991 in the West German Radio Symphony Orchestra. She was also principal flute in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra for three years.
She has won prizes at numerous international competitions. As a soloist she won the renowned international flute competitions “Prague Spring” (1991) and “Kobe” (1993). With the Arcis Quintet she won, among others, the German Music Competition (1986) and the ARD Competition (1989). She owes these prizes as well as her orchestral position to a rich concert life – both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Her second passion is teaching. Thus, in addition to her work in the orchestra, she has already held teaching positions at the Cologne and Hanover Conservatories. In 2002, she became a full professor at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Nine years later, she followed a call to the University of Music and Theatre in Munich.
