Prof. Petru Munteanu

Prof. Petru Munteanu studied in Bucharest with Prof. George Manoliu and attended master classes with Juri Jankelevitsch and Michael Weiman.

After his training, he became director of the Special School of Music in Bucharest and subsequently taught at the Bucharest Academy of Music. From 1970 Munteanu was a violin professor at the conservatories in Lübeck and Hamburg. In 1994, he was appointed founding professor and head of the string classes at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre and had a lasting influence on its development until 2010. His students are members of renowned European orchestras, e.g. Albena Danailova (concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic) and prize winners at national and international competitions (Baiba Skride). Munteanu’s concert activities, publications, jury activities and master classes have made him well-known at home and abroad. He is the founder and artistic director of the International Violin Competition and the master classes in Schöntal Abbey.
