
Ulrich Hermann is professor of bassoon at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, one of the world’s leading artistic training institutions and one of the largest music academies in Europe.
From 1995-2022 he was principal bassoonist in the Stuttgart State Orchestra. As a schoolboy, he took part in numerous choirs for many years and received piano lessons from the age of 7 before switching to the bassoon at the age of 18. In 1990, he began his studies at the conservatory in his home town of Stuttgart, graduating with distinction in 1994.
As a competition prizewinner, soloist and member of renowned chamber music ensembles, he has performed throughout Europe, the USA and Asia and has recorded several CDs and radio recordings. He is also a regular guest with internationally renowned opera, symphony and chamber orchestras.
Ulrich Hermann enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide as a teacher; he has established a bassoon
bassoon class, whose members regularly win prizes at national and international music competitions. He gives master classes for bassoon and wind chamber music and is a jury member at competitions in Europe and Japan.
From 2001 to 2009, he taught bassoon at the Würzburg University of Music. Since 2009, he has held a professorship for wind chamber music at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts; in 2017, he was appointed professor of bassoon at the Mainz University of Music, followed by an appointment at the Trossingen University of Music in 2021. Many of his students are now members of leading orchestras and teach as professors at universities.
